Hi there,

I came across your page during my research for a project for which I am contributor. It is a resource primarily aimed at business professionals and those with an interest in the business world. It provides a comprehensive overview of various business sectors, issues, and educational avenues. It also takes a critical look at how online education platforms are educating future business leaders.

I would love to send over more details about this project, and partner with you to have it listed as a resource link on your site. Let me know!

Thanks for your time. I look forward to working with you!

Three different things are going on in this topic:
1) Slavery does exist today and does happen in the US. Many slaves are here illegally -- some came in search of "jobs" only to be imprisoned, others were abducted and transported unwillingly. They need to be rescued.
2) Illegal immigration, when the immigrant is deliberately and knowingly violating the necessary limitations of another country, is a violation of the rights of the people of the country whose boundaries have been trespassed. We should be working to help pro-democracy, pro-economic development, anti-drug-trade movements in other countries to reduce the tension over boundaries and limitations.
3) Godwin's Law and its traditional automatic-forfeit corollary is absolutely necessary to any modern discussion of just about anything, since so many people use ad hominem appeals to emotion so wildly and obsessively these days. I like the exception that says it doesn't apply if the comparison is valid. But the exception needs its own exception: Any claim to a valid comparison requires immediate, clear, calm, substantial explanation or it constitutes a forfeit.

Yeah, there are a ton of quibbles I would have with the inclusion of all those things.

Like you said, if Veterans Benefits count as a "government social program" then so does any non-salary benefits/retirement/pension program that a government employee has, and I don't think that's what this article was aiming at.

If the problem is that a guy has been cast as someone with a slightly different racial heritage, then surely the real scandal here is that they've cast human beings as deities/members of an advanced alien race?

Yeah, I don't know if they defined it further. Does "witches" mean people who just call themselves that, or people who can actually perform curses or "witchcraft"? I don't know, but given the low % of people who said they believed (equivalent with "communicate with the dead") makes me think that they were indeed thinking of witches as people capable of supernatural things.

Witches, without further qualification, are in no way a crazy thing to believe in. There is ample, well-documented evidence that there are lots of witches around. See, for example, the covens on military bases. The fact that they can't reliably demonstrate any supernatural abilities is beside the point. This ill-designed element throws the implications of the cumulative count off considerably.

Yeah, he could have made a much better case for himself if he wanted to -- that's part of what surprised me. He essentially picked the worst possible framing for the argument he was making, if you did anything other than just glance at the graphs.

Man, that's stupid. One other issue that cuts in Krugman's direction: the bottom graph seems to be in nominal dollars; presumably if you showed it in real dollars it would be a little flatter. But screwing around with the axes is still dishonest.

Excellent observation. The question is, will cocaine is produced in a time-delayed pill form, will it be accepted?

Still, I prefer the insufflation method.

Good post, and cheers for the pointer towards Tim's.

The Yglesias comments probably are probably pretty telling in themselves - if people do go beyond the general, reflexive idea that the law probably works (most of the time... sort of), then it's usually because they're convinced that they can sort it all out. And usually they think they can do this because they're smarter than the last lot of fools. So while they're willing to concede that some of the old laws might be stupid, they'll swear blind that they've got a whole load of new rules that will make everything better just as soon as someone gives them a chance.

Just getting rid of the old rules never seems quite as much fun.

I was sad that no-one picked up on the copyright/patent thing in Tim's post, because I've always thought of that as a pretty good litnus test for bullshit libertarianism.
